Well, I fell into burnout in 2022. This was the first time that I truly understood what burnout meant. I was seeing about 30 patients a day, I was working so hard, as I should. BUT --

  • I always left work late
  • I was never quite as efficient or productive as I could be (I didn't truly understand what "productivity" meant at the time). 
  • I was definitely not making a salary that I felt was appropriate for the level of work I was putting in (again, I didn't truly understand what "productivity" meant at the time). 
  • I was exhausted and frustrated. 
  • I didn't have much time for myself outside of work. 
  • I was very stressed to say the least
  • ...and I even considered changing careers.

I was BUSY BUT NOT (quite as) PRODUCTIVE!!!

 

This is the time that I started to learn and implement several strategies to not only help me get out of burnout, but to also help me work smarter in order to have longevity in my career. 

 

Here are a few key things I changed: 

  • I developed a workflow that worked best for me
  • I figured out a more manageable schedule and patient volume
  • I worked very closely with our billing/coding specialists
  • I completely changed how I manage administrative tasks

Month after month, I saw my productivity and projected income grow exceedingly. 

In less than a year, I was able to generate more income than I ever thought I could as a 

primary care doctor. 

 

I remember getting questions from some of my colleagues regarding how they can also scale their income. That is when I realized that there were other primary care physicians likely going through the same thing I did.
